Garden Wisdom & FAQs
Common questions from our growing community
What are the best plants for absolute beginners?
For houseplants, you can’t go wrong with a Pothos or Snake Plant—they are incredibly resilient! For outdoor gardens, tomatoes and marigolds are great “quick win” plants that build confidence for new gardeners.
How do I know when my plants need watering?
The “finger test” is my favorite! Stick your finger about an inch into the soil. If it’s dry, it’s time to water. If it’s still damp, wait a few days. Overwatering is the #1 killer of houseplants!
What should I do about pests in my garden?
I always recommend starting with natural solutions! Neem oil or a simple mix of water and mild dish soap can deter many common pests. Encouraging beneficial insects like ladybugs is also a fantastic long-term strategy.
When is the best time to start garden prep?
Late winter or early spring is perfect. This is when you can test your soil, order seeds, and clean up your beds before the first planting window opens. Check out our “Garden Prep” page for a full checklist!
